“Modeling Terms and Definitions.

Petite Model [puh-teet][mod-l]: In runway modeling, petite is any model 5’8” or shorter; in glamour modeling petite could be 5’5” or shorter.

Seeing that the Petite alternative is a magazine and not a runway show our standards are 5’5” or shorter.

Alternative modeling [awl-tur-nuh-tiv, al-][mod-l-ing]: a branch of the modeling industry that features models who do not conform to mainstream ideals of beauty. Alternative models are often niche-specific, with a personal style that represents subcultures like goth, burlesque, latex and fetishism. An alternative model may for example be tattooed, pierced, or have distinctively subcultural hair (shaved, dyed a distinctively unnatural colour, or in dreadlocks).Alternative modeling can be clothed or unclothed.

Seeing that the Petite alternative is a tattoo magazine we like to feature heavily tattooed models.

The Petite Alternative is a magazine dedicated to the underdog within the modeling industry. Petite Alternative is the only publication with a mission to help petite women who are tattooed and pierced. Petite Alternative wants to begin a movement showing the world that height standards and self expression are no reason to look the other way. Beauty is an art form in many colors and shades. Join us in our goals to make the worlds diversity something to be proud of.
